This week, we meet the newest member of the VT Team, Data and Compliance Officer, Rich!
How did you end up at Varsity Training? What jobs have you done beforehand?
After I finished University, I struggled to find any long term employment and spent a year or two temping. I eventually ended up doing two weeks at Weston College, which lasted for 8’years! During that time I worked in the External Contracts team, helped launch the West of England Works project as well as being a Business Lead for goth Offender Learning and Apprenticeships. I stumbled across Varsity Trainings website one day and speculatively dropped and email and the rest as they say is history!
Why did you get into Health and Social Care?
I’m probably the only VT member without a Health and Social Care background – but the passion of providing the sector with the best training and qualifications from the rest of the team has definitely rubbed off on me already.
Which three people, past or present, would you invite to your dream dinner party and why?
Dynamo – who doesn’t like a bit of magic
Josè Mourinho – think he should hear out a few of my ideas
Paul McCartney – Nice singsong on the piano afterwards
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend?
A quick trip down the pub on Friday evening, then on Saturday, a long drive with my Fiancé and Dog somewhere nice for an even longer walk and something to eat and then Sunday, a Tottenham Hotspur win . . .
If you had to pick a ‘final’ meal, what would it be? Start, Main and Desert, please!
Starter: Garlic mushrooms
Main: My Mums cottage pie!
Dessert: Coffee and walnut cake
Do you have any pets and if so, what are their names?
We have . . . a 10 year old Dog called Milo, we think he’s a Jack Russel/Staff/Collie cross! 18 year old Cat called Gus, a Bearded Dragon called Frankie, Gecko called Freckles, then we have Flip and Flop the Gerbils, Bert and Ernie the Giant African Land Snails and of course not forgetting Fish, Chips, Salt, Pepper and Diego the fish . . .
Your favourite holiday destination?
Anywhere quiet and remote where we can take Milo with lots of long walks nearby.
. . . and finally, would you rather be able to talk to animals or be invisible?
Talk to animals – we have enough that I’d never run out of conversation!
